Learning to swim: acquaintance with the water

My main goal at this point is to teach you to like and trust the water.
What will we do on the first session? We will gradually learn to swim from simple to complex.
1. We will try to relax the entire body and to feel at ease in the water as if it was a comfortable bed. You should be able to fully relax and float.
2. Our next step is to start moving arms in the water and try pulling. At the same time, you will join your legs too. So, we will try to swim for a while and learn how to coordinate movements.
Congratulations!
You ARE already swimming :-)

See you on the next session!

Please see the videos below demonstrating the basic movements.

Learning the Frog Kick
On the first session we have learnt how to float and relax in the water.
Today we are going to learn the frog kick! It is the basic move which suits every beginner, and it is the important part of the breast stroke.
I recommend breast stroke to all beginners as it is less energy consuming than crawl.
Learning to breathe in breaststroke
Today we are learning to breathe correctly while swimming and combine breathing with a stroke in breaststroke.
We need to inhale through the mouth on the surface and easily exhale under the water.
Full Breaststroke
The next step of learning breaststroke is the gradual combination of breath, stroke and kick. We do this slowly to feel every movement and strength of our stroke and kick.
Now you can swim breaststroke!
Butterfly. Dolphin move
When you learn to swim Butterfly style, first you need to train your flexibility and fluidity. This will be useful not only in Butterfly, but in any other styles of swimming. Remember, that flexibility and fluidity are the key to the easy and correct swimming. To achieve that, we need the "dolphin" movement as an example.
To start with, we try to copy the movements of a dolphin which has to go under a series of obstacles on the surface. To make it easier, it's better to use fins in order to feel the strength of the "dolphin tail" kick. In this exercise we mostly use hips and legs.
Breathing in dolphin move
While swimming like a dolphin, you should reach for a breath every two kicks. Don't worry, the strength of the "tail" kick is enough to lift your body and take a breath. When under the water, exhale smoothly in the water.
Butterfly with one arm stroke
Now we can combine the dolphin move with one arm stroke, while breathing to the side.
We make a stroke with one arm when we take a breath at the same time.
Full Butterfly
And this is what we aim for! Full butterfly style. At this point we can keep training the endurance, the kick strength and lung capacity.
